Assistant Librarian for Economics

Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is an urban research and academic health science university with 22 schools and academic units. IUPUI is located in downtown Indianapolis, a comfortable and affordable mid-sized city. IUPUI enrolls more than 29,000 students. The vision of the IUPUI University Library is to be the innovative leader among urban libraries. It has a staff of approximately 90 and a budget in excess of $9 million. 

The IUPUI University Library seeks to fill a tenure-track position to serve on the Liberal Arts/Music Team. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing reference and research services to IUPUI students and faculty; developing and teaching library research skills, developing print and electronic collections in one or more designated subject areas, promoting library services and information literacy, and assisting in the development of information and instructional technologies.

 The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and commitment to student success, the potential to fulfill the requirements for promotion and tenure, and the ability to work in a team-based organization. 

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Master's Degree.
  • Intelligence and imagination
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Public service experience, especially with people of diverse educational, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience using new technologies to access and deliver information

Desired Qualifications:

  • Academic background in economics
  • Reading comprehension of one of the following languages: Spanish, French, German
  • Experience in academic libraries
  • Experience with instruction and information literacy

Minimum salary $41,500; benefits include 22 days vacation, 9 paid holiday, health/dental insurance options, and retirement (TIAA-CREF).
