By submitting this license, you (the author(s) or copyright owner) grants to the Indiana University Board of Trustees on behalf of IDeA (IUPUI) the non-exclusive right to reproduce, translate (as defined below), and/or distribute your submission (including abstracts and item descriptions) worldwide in print and electronic format and in any medium, including but not limited to audio or video.

You agree that IUPUI may, without changing the content, translate the submission to any medium or format for the purpose of preservation.

You also agree that IUPUI may keep more than one copy of this submission for purposes of security, back-up and preservation.

You represent that the submission is your original work, and that you have the right to grant the rights contained in this license. You also represent that your submission does not, to the best of your knowledge infringe upon anyone’s copyright.

If the submission contains material for which you do not hold copyright, you represent that you have obtained the permission of the copyright owner to grant to IUPUI the rights required by this license, and that such third-party owned material is clearly identified and acknowledged within the text or content of the submission. You agree to hold IUPUI harmless in the event of any violation.

IF THE SUBMISSION IS BASED UPON WORK THAT HAS BEEN SPONSORED OR SUPPORTED BY AN AGENCY OR ORGANIZATION OTHER THAN INDIANA UNIVERSITY AND PURDUE UNIVERSITY, YOU REPRESENT THAT YOU HAVE FULFILLED ANY RIGHT OF REVIEW OR OTHER OBLIGATIONS REQUIRED BY SUCH CONTRACT OR AGREEMENT.

IUPUI will clearly identify your names(s) as author(s) or owner(s) of the submission, and will not make any alteration, other than as allowed by this license, to your submission.

License Agreement with Your Work's Readers

When submitting your work to IDeA you will have the option of establishing a license which guides how others can or cannot use your work. By answering a few simple question through IDeA's online form you can create a license that is digitally linked to your work. This license option is possible through a tool created by Creative Commons, an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering, "private rights to create public good."

License Agreements with Other Publishers

Your Work Has Already Been Published?

If you would like to submit a work to IDeA that has already been published, you should review the license agreement made with the publisher (if any) to determine if the work can be submitted to IDeA. Consult the Copyright Management Center for information regarding license agreement interpretation. Even if the initial license agreement with the original publisher appears to restrict submission to IDeA it can be fairly simple to request the necessary permission for inclusion in IDeA. Many publishers make specific accommodations for posting of works in institutional repositories such as IDeA, you merely need to ask permission from the publisher.

Another tool for determining a specific publisher's general stance on inclusion of published works in institutional repositories is RoMEO. RoMEO is a searchable database of publishers' restrictions and conditions governing their archiving rights or activities policies. Search for your publisher's policies here: http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo.php

You're in the Process of Getting Your Work Published?

If you would like to submit a work to IDeA for which you have not yet signed or submitted the publisher's license agreement, you have the opportunity to secure your rights before publication. Consult the publisher's proposed license agreement. It may already allow you to submit to an institutional repository such as IDeA. If it does not there are a couple of tools that can help you generate a document requesting the necessary rights. The Scholar's Copyright Addendum Engine allows authors to fill out a simple form and immediately generate a PDF that can be added to the publisher's original agreement. The Copyright Management Center at IUPUI also has documents that can be used for requesting the necessary rights.
