Borrowing Policies for High School Classes
IUPUI University Library permits individual high school students to borrow up to 5 items. The loan period for books is thirty (30) days. All borrowers are subject to a daily overdue fine rate of 25¢ per item per day, and all materials are subject to recall if other users need them. Periodical articles must be photocopied in the library, as periodicals do not circulate.
Students should be advised that they will need to bring money for photocopying and printing. B&W printing from the computers will be charged $.07 cents per copy and all users will need to purchase a Printer-Copier Card at the Circulation Desk for $2.00. The Printer-Copier Card has $1.00 already on it when purchased, and students can add money to the card using the DART machine located in the Reference area. Photocopies currently cost 10¢ per page, however if they use their Printer-Copier Card the cost per copy drops to $.07 cents. Microform printouts cost 10¢. Color printing is available for $1.00 per page.
If you wish to have cards issued to your class, please provide the following information on school stationery at least one week prior to your visit to University Library: instructor's name, school, work address, daytime phone number and the name, home addresses, zip code, for each student. This information should be typed and must be received by the library at least one week before the class trip. Lists may be faxed to (317) 274-0492.
(Effective May 1, 2006) Although cards will be made up in advance, each student must also bring with them a completed Indiana Resident Library Card Application and User Agreement (PDF) signed by a parent or legal guardian for a card to be issued.
High School Borrower cards are issued to each individual student, and each individual is responsible for their own overdues and fines. Cards issued to high school students expire one year from date of issue. Individual students may reactivate their cards by contacting the University Library Circulation desk. Students who plan to attend any campus of Indiana University may have their card upgraded when they enroll. There is a $5.00 charge for replacing lost cards. Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately.
During the months of October and March it is advisable to send this information as soon as plans for the trip are confirmed, as these are extremely busy periods. If you prefer, this information along with a brief explanation identifying yourself, your school and the date of your trip may be emailed to CIRC@IUPUI.EDU.
Borrower cards for class visits will be given to the instructors for distribution upon your arrival. Unclaimed cards should be returned to the Circulation Department.
For more information, contact one of the Circulation Team members at (317) 274-0471.
