April 24, 1989. 

On this day, the Indiana University School of Social Work co-hosted Barry Morrow, Oscar and Golden Globe award-winning author of the screenplay of the Hollywood film, Rain Man, the story of an autistic savant. He spoke in the IUPUI Conference Center auditorium. The script of Rain Man joined other award-winning works by Morrow that focused on the disabled. Social Work dean Dr. Sheldon Siegel noted that Morrow, drawing on family and other experience, "is one of the talented few who have been able to write successfully about the problems of those who face special obstacles--physical or mental--in this world."
