May 12, 1995.
On this day, Herron School of Art student Jeffrey Drew won first place in the Indianapolis 500 poster contest. In his winner entry, Drew painted over an image of two Indy cars on the Speedway track. The poster was printed and sold, the proceeds of which went to Herron.
For many years Anton "Tony" Hulman (1901-1977), owner of the Indianapolis 500, funded the Herron poster competition. The competition continued after his death.
