Electronic Journals in Economics

Please note: this is not yet an exhaustive list of electronic journals in economics, but will be completed soon. Also, the J-STOR journals are a "rolling backfile" in most cases. For most journals, they provide electronic access from the beginning of publication to five years from the current year.

Library Indexes and Databases

  • ABI/INFORMThis business database is very heavy in theoretical research that would be useful for students and scholars in economics. Unlike most of the other economics-related databases, this one has a limited number of articles available in full-text format.
  • Business and Company Resource Center; replaces Business and Company ASAP Although primarily a business database, it contains information useful for many areas of economics.
  • EconLit This is the main database resource for research in economics.
  • EIU.com (Economist Intelligence Unit) This resource contains news and reports of interest to economists studying international and U.S. economic conditions.
  • Ethnic NewsWatch This resource is an excellent source for articles in any topic with interest to specific ethnic groups. A great source for "alternative" economic information.
  • Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) ICPSR is the world's premier social science data archive, housed at the University of Michigan. As a member institution, Indiana University has access to the full range of data, not just the free data available to everyone. To get access, contact the University Library for details.
  • National Trade Data Bank (NTDB) Part of STAT-USA, National Trade Data Bank provides statistics about all aspects of trade. STAT-USA is a great source of statistical information.
  • Public Affairs Information Service PAIS covers a wide body of research in public affairs, much of which is of interest to economists.
  • Social Sciences Citation Index (1987- ) (Available through Web of Science) SSCI is a resource that allows the user to not only search for authors, subjects, etc; it is designed to search articles cited throughout the literature by other articles. A very handy, powerful tool!

  • Europa Hope page for the European Union. Contains news, links, and statistics of use to economists.
  • International Monetary Fund Home page of the IMF, an international banking organization that provides loans to poor countries for resource development.
  • United Nations Home page for the United Nations. Provides information about programs, links to other sites of interest, and data of interest to economists.
  • World Bank Home page of the World Bank, an international organization chartered to promote development and the elimination of poverty in underdeveloped countries.

  • Encyclopedia of Law and Economics A great resource for all sorts of information about economics and the law, maintained by FindLaw.com, a specialized search engine for legal, economic. and policy information on the web.
  • The Globalist On-line, non-refereed resource for articles and information about globalization and international economics.
  • J-Guide: Stanford Guide to Japan Information Resources Guide assembled at Stanford University to provide access to information about the economy and other aspects of Japan.
  • National Bureau of Economic Research Home page of the National Bureau of Economic Research, "a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works. Our research is conducted by more than 500 university professors around the country, the leading scholars in their fields." Maintains a searchable archive of working papers prepared by its members.
  • Research Papers in Economics Calls itself the "largest largest bibliographic database dedicated to Economics and available on the Internet." Maintained by an economist at the University of Quebec at Montreal (Canada).
  • Resources for Economists on the Internet Guide to economics resources on the Internet, sponsored by theAmerican Economic Association.
  • Supply Side University Home page of an organization dedicated to teaching people about supply-side political economics. Offers weekly lessons in supply-side economics, as well as information and resources related to this topic.
