Finding Magazine & Journal Articles

Academic OneFile (Gale)- Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world´s leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly.

Academic Search Premier (EBSCO)- This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles. Academic Search Premier is updated on a daily basis.

ACM Portal (ACM Digital Library and Guide to Computing Literature) - The Digital Library site provides current access to the ACM journals, magazines, proceedings and newsletters.  This page allows seraches of all ACM materials, including scholarly materials such as the journals and conference proceedings collection.

Applied Science and Technology Full Text (Wilson) - coverage includes trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and specialized subject periodicals, as well as special issues such as buyers' guides, directories, and conference proceedings.  This database covers over 300 English-language titles in the applied sciences and engineering, including various aspects of mechanical engineering; electrical engineering and other related engineering fields.

Dissertations & Theses (ProQuest) - Doctoral dissertations and master´s theses are a vital fund of scholarship for any discipline. The massive body of work available through ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) represents the most comprehensive source of academic research in the world.

DOE Information Bridge - provides free public access to full-text documents and bibliographic citations of Department of Energy research reports from January 1996 - present.

DTIC Technical Reports - Defense Technical Information Center provides access to scientific and technical information.

Ei Compendex (Engineering Index through Engineering Village 2) (1990-Present) - Mechanical, civil, environmental, electrical, structural, and process engineering, materials science, solid state physics, superconductivity, bioengineering, energy, chemical, optics, air and water pollution, solid waste management, hazardous waste road transportation, and transportation safety.

IEEE Xplore - Search or browse the complete IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) of IEEE and IET journals, transactions, society publications, magazines, and conference papers.  AbstractPlus records and full text is provided for content published since 1988, and for select content published since 1913.

IEEE Computer Society Digital Library - Provides full online content (current, plus complete archive) for the society's magazines, transactions, and extensive conference proceedings.

IET Journals page - Describes the IET journals, which can be accessed via IEEE Xplore.

Web of Science (ISI) - The ISI Web of Science provides seamless access to the Science Citation Expanded®, Social Sciences Citation Index®, and Arts & Humanities Citation Indexâ„¢. It enables users to search current and r etrospective multidisciplinary information from approximately 8,500 of the most prestigious, high impact research journals in the world. ISI Web of Science also provides a unique search method, cited reference searching. With it, users can navigate forward, backward, and through the literature, searching all disciplines and time spans to uncover all the information relevant to their research. Users can also navigate to electronic full-text journal articles.

Professional Organizations

ACM - The homepage for the Association for Computing Machinery, an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology.

IEE - The homepage for the Institute for Electrical Engineering Engineers promotes the advancement of electrical, electronic and manufacturing science and engineering.  Based in the United Kingdom, the organization's mission is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas pertaining to these different sciences of engineering.

IEEE - The homepage for Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers promotes the engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge about electro- and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of the profession and humanity.

SPIE - The homepage for the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, a professional society that seeks to advance research, engineering and applications in optics, photonics, imaging and electronics.  The site contains employment vacancies, details of forthcoming meetings, and publications and current selected articles from the SPIE's monthly publication, OE Reports.

Internet Resources

DARPA - The homepage for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the main research and development organization for the Department of Defense.  The agency manages and directs basic and applied research and development projects and pursues research and technology where risk and payoff are both very high.

DOE Pulse Newsletter - This newsletter highlights work being done at the Department of Energy's national laboratories and is distributed twice each month.

Datasheet Locator - This free electronic engineering tool allows users to locate product datasheets from hundreds of electronic component manufacturers worldwide.

Electronics and Electrical Engineering Laboratory - This government resource provides the fundamental basis for all electrical measurements in the United States.  Measurements include semiconductor, magnetic, radio frequency, microwave, optical, optoelectronic, and superconducting equipment; flat-panel displays; electronic instrumentation; and electrical power apparatus and systems.

FCC - With a jurisdiction covering the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions, the Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable.
