The federal government is a major publisher of geology reports and publications. Below are resources produced by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Most of these resources are indexed in GeoRef [CSA-Web]. USGS publications can be shelved either in the Library's General Collection (Stacks), for older materials, or the Library's Government Documents collection, for newer materials. Many publications are also electronically accessible, and the online catalog will often reflect this. Be sure to contact the Geology liaison, Ed Gonzalez, if you need assistance in locating materials. Please note: this is not an exhaustive listing of USGS publications available at University Library.

• U.S. Geological Survey Bulletins (Results of geological studies) Years not in one location, can be in either: STACKS QE 75 .A3 or GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS I 19.3 Check IUCAT for a specific title or series name. Selected online access at: http://infotrek.er.usgs.gov/pubs/
• U.S. Geological Survey Circulars (Reports on geological studies) Available in paper: GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS I 19.4 Beginning in the early 1980's, individual item records were included in IUCAT. • Water Supply Papers (Water resources research reports) Older issues (pre-1980): STACKS TC801 .U2 Holding information in IUCAT is sporadic, and the catalog has two serial records leading to the series: 'Water-supply paper' which covers 1908-1947 and 'Geological Survey water-supply paper' which covers 1950-1981. 1980's to the present: Government Documents I 19.13 Locate more current holdings (beginning around 1981) in IUCAT via a Title search. • Professional Papers (Formal reports of USGS studies) In general, Professional Papers are located in two areas: STACKS QE75 .A4 or GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS I 19.16 To locate a specific Professional Paper, type the title in IUCAT.
