GeoRef Key Resource The core index in geology, GeoRef provides access to the geoscience literature of the world. Contains references to geoscience journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports and theses. The database also includes references to all publications of the U.S. Geological Survey. North American coverage is from 1785 - present; worldwide coverage is from 1933 - present. Subjects covered include: areal geology, economic geology, engineering geology, environmental geology, extraterrestrial geology, geochemistry, geochronology, geophysics, hydrogeology and hydrology, marine geology and oceanography, mathematical geology, mineralogy and crystallography, paleontology, petrology, seismology, stratigraphy, structural geology, surficial geology.

Science Citation Index (Available through Web of Science) A multidisciplinary, citation index with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of the sciences, including geology. Coverage is from 1987 to the present.

Applied Science and Technology Index Indexes and abstracts magazine and journal articles related to the applied and physical sciences. Full Text coverage for selected periodicals is also included. Periodical coverage includes trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and specialized subject periodicals, as well as special issues such as buyers' guides, directories, and conference proceedings. Coverage is from 1993 to the present. Since this resource indexes articles across a number of science disciplines, indexing of geology-related information is shallow. Includes coverage in the areas of atmospheric sciences, geology, mineralogy, oceanography.

Academic Search Premier and/or Expanded Academic ASAP Both databases lead to magazine and journal articles from all discipline areas including the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. These databases may be an adequate place to start your research; however, for more comprehensive coverage of geology-related topics, search the core index, GeoRef. Both sources index popular magazine articles and scholarly journal articles.

Geography Geography is a subset of GEOBASE, the Elsevier/Geo Abstracts database. It covers the international literature in physical and human geography, providing access to information from over 2000 journals, monographs, books, conference proceedings reports, and theses. Database coverage is from 1994 to the present.

Environmental Sciences Databases

EIS: Digests of Environmental Impact Statements Indexes and abstracts environmental impact statements issued by the federal government. EIS extracts the key issues from complex government-released environmental impact statements, converting massive documents into concise, readable abstracts. Each entry includes a clear description of the project, sections on positive impact and negative consequences, and legal mandates. Areas of coverage related to the environmental sciences include: hazardous substances, land use, parks, refuges, forests, and water. Coverage is from 2000 to the present.

Environment Abstracts Annual REFERENCE Z5322 .E2 E56 This annual publication selectively indexes scientific, popular, and business journals as well as proceedings, newsletters, and reports. The articles and documents include address "the impact of humankind and technology on the environment" in such topics as pollution, hazardous waste, climate change, biodiversity, and conservation of species. Of specific note, this source focuses on coverage of source materials on applied environmental research, analysis, and evaluative assessments, as opposed to materials on pure scientific research or engineering and technolgy in fields related to the environment. Coverage is from the early 1980's (with some gaps) to the present.

Pollution Abstracts Pollution Abstracts combines information on scientific research and government policies in a single resource. It Indexes journal articles, conference proceedings, and miscellaneous documents. Major areas of coverage include: air pollution, marine pollution, freshwater pollution, sewage and wastewater treatment, waste management, land pollution, toxicology and health, noise, radiation, environmental action. Coverage is from 1981 to the present.

Open Access Resources

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) -Peer-reviewed titles address applied and theoretical topics, including biotechnology, condensed matter physics, optics, materials research, and mathematical physics.

Public Library of Science (PLoS) Journals -Publishes peer-reviewed, open-access scientific and medical journals that include original research as well as timely feature articles. Campus membership provides a discount to authors for the article publication fee.

KEY: To learn where the Print copies of a journal are located at University Library, look the title up in IUCAT. Type the tile of the journal in the Enter Term(s) box and select 'Periodical Title'. To access the Electronic version of a journal, go to the Electronic Journal List.
