Academic Search Premier (EBSCO) is a great multidisciplinary article database that provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. Academic Search Premier is updated daily.
SPORTDiscus w/ Full Text (EBSCO) offers comprehensive coverage of sport, fitness and related disciplines. It contains over 230 full text titles and over 650,000 records with coverage going back to 1800 and over 20,000 dissertations and theses and reference to articles in 60 different languages. MEDLINE (EBSCO) provides authoritative medical research information from such fields as medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more.

Country Information Online
Background Notes [online book] are published by the U.S. Department of State and include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of independent states, some dependencies, and areas of special sovereignty. The Background Notes are updated/revised by the Office of Electronic Information and Publications of the Bureau of Public Affairs as they are received from the Department's regional bureaus.
CIA World Factbook [online book] provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 266 world entities.
HRAF: World Cultures is a cross-cultural databases that contains information on all aspects of cultural and social life.
International Statistical Agencies links to official statistical sources for individual countries. For a non-English speaking country, look for a link to English language on their websites.
WHOSIS, the World Health Organization Statistical Information System, is an interactive database bringing together core health statistics for the 193 WHO Member States. It comprises more than 100 indicators, which can be accessed by way of a quick search, by major categories, or through user-defined tables. The data can be further filtered, tabulated, charted and downloaded.
Global Issues In Context offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events. Featured are hundreds of continuously updated issue and country portals that bring together a variety of specially selected, highly relevant sources for analysis of social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural issues. Each of these gateway pages includes an overview, unique "perspectives" articles written by local experts, reference, periodical, primary source and statistical information.
OnlineNewspapers.com contains links to thousands of newspapers from around the world—a good way to learn about daily life and culture in different countries. You will have to pick and choose several; look for those indicating English versions and which contain tabs for health, sports, culture, etc.
Also, check out University Library's International Newsroom, located in the 2nd floor reference area. The volume is turned up slightly on the TVs or you may receive audio via FM radio. The 2nd floor lobby desk has radios available for $2.50. Six plasma screens feature TV newsfeeds from:
