    Barbara Zimmer began teaching as a lecturer in the IUPUI Department of English in 1979.  She was an avid researcher in the field of intercultural communication, and in 1994, was given the opportunity to become an exchange professor to Malaysia.  In Malaysia, she taught freshman composition.  She returned to IUPUI later that year when the program ended and continued teaching English at IUPUI throughout the 1990s.

    Martha Francois

    Martha Francois, Ph.D.


    Dean, School of Liberal Arts, 1979-1981

     

    In 1979, Martha Francois, Ph.D. became the first and only female dean in the history of the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts.  At the time, she was also one of the first female deans on campus.  A Harvard graduate, Francois previously taught at Northeastern University in Boston.  Francois's term as dean was short-lived; she resigned in 1981.
