UL has Newly Redesigned Website

By Kathleen Hanna

In August 2007, IUPUI University Library launched its newly redesigned website The new site has a more streamlined look and feel and provides a more intuitive and user-friendly gateway to the library’s resources and services for our students, faculty, staff, and community.

The redesign project, accomplished by University Library’s Digital Libraries Team, centers on a free open source content management software system called Drupal.

Drupal allows University Library to continue developing a scalable environment to support its changing student population (including distance learning students), growing digital collections, and emerging technologies for delivering library resources “where the students are.” Drupal also allows library staff to take stewardship of individual sections or pages of the website and quickly create, add, or update content as needed.

New website features include:

  • Easier, more intuitive navigation
  • Compatibility across other platforms, including Oncourse CL
  • Updated Research, Service, and Information categories
  • MetaSearch Quick Search and IUCAT searching from the homepage
  • New research guides and online tutorials
  • Improved readability
  • News & Events with RSS feed
  • Librarian biography pages

The new website will continue to be developed and fine-tuned during fall and spring semesters, with usability testing conducted with students on an ongoing basis. We invite our users to submit comments and suggestions about our new website.
