Are you stuck with a corporate publisher that doesn’t actually care about research? What if the whole editorial board quit?
That’s what happened at the Journal of Informetrics.
On January 10th, 2019 the entire editorial board resigned with a unanimous statement. Cassidy Sugimoto, an IU Bloomington faculty member and the president of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics, noted “Our society was actively participating in the labor of this journal without any remuneration.” After walking out on Elsevier, the editors launched a new journal, Quantitative Science Studies, owned by the society and operating under Fair Open Access Principles.
