Changes are happening! Since 2009, I have had responsibility for all things metadata at University Library. During the last 7 years, the Digital Libraries Team has gone through two name changes and an enormous amount of growth to become the Center for Digital Scholarship. Though it is somewhat bittersweet for me, the current level of productivity and diversity of projects coming out of the Center made this the right time to hand off metadata management responsibilities to someone for whom metadata would be her sole responsibility. It's the right time for me to step back and let someone else take the metadata reins.
Enter Mairelys Lemus-Rojas, University Library's new Metadata Librarian. UL is lucky to have added Mairelys to our team, and more specifically, to the Bibliographic & Metadata Services department. Mairelys comes to us from the University of Miami where she worked as a Cataloging & Metadata Librarian. Her research interests include the information seeking behavior of online users in cultural heritage institutions, as well as the implications of integrating new technologies into these settings. More recently she has been working in exposing curated information to Wikipedia in an effort to provide access to underrepresented subjects and to increase visibility of our library collections. Mairelys received a Master of Science in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University with a concentration in Web Design/Technology & Networking. She was awarded certificates in Museum Studies and Information Architecture and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on sculpture/installation from Florida State University with a minor in Art History.​
