History of the IUPUI Neighborhood: 1970's:

Brief View

1970's campus aerial

IUPUI began to take shape as an urban university in the 70’s. This aerial photograph shows the expanding campus with the recent addition of the Engineering and Technology Building (lower right side of the image). Much of the campus landscape was dotted with parking lots even at this early stage of campus development. The sprawling parking lots were a symptom of the university’s land acquisition program and the growing commuter student enrollments and staff employment during the period. While fewer in number, there were still houses standing between Michigan and New York Streets.
